OVERVIEW

The NAILAB is an ICT Business Incubation Laboratory. NAILAB, shortened from NAIROBI INCUBATION LABORATORY, incubates ICT – based or ICT – heavy start-ups and SMEs and offers:

The NAILAB offers an incubation platform to help young entrepreneurs to concentrate on building a business structure around their innovations without the need of a high initial capital to secure office space and the accompanying services.

The reasoning behind the creation of these LABS is simple. We believe that by concentrating technology innovators that are building businesses in Africa in specific locations, we make it easier and more likely for financiers such as venture capitalists, angel investors or profit / non-profit driven corporations to find them and their products and services.

LOCATION

The NAILAB is a 1,972 ft2 third [top] floor grand space at the Bishop Magua Centre on Ngong road. The building is clearly visible and easily accessible to one of Nairobi’s busiest and longest roads; Ngong Road. The Bishop Magua Centre is built on a piece of prime land directly opposite two large shopping centres that tend to roughly 8000 people daily.

PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

NAILAB works to enable the dynamic, intelligent and innovative members of Nairobi’s tech community to transform their innovations into profitable business entities and/or service providers. Our programs and initiatives help facilitate and inspire business development and allow our members to make a positive impact in institutions of learning, organizations and communities. Our programs and initiatives are divided into three sections that all NAILAB incubates participate in.

Our INCUBATION services offer business development, legal advice, copyright facilitation, technological assistance, product/service implementation strategy, venture capital fundraising, marketing strategies and product packaging support. These services are offered virtually and physically and on a full-time or consulted basis depending on the individual business requirements. The teaching format varies from a one-on-one setting to a group structure.

Our CO-CREATION services are offered to external companies and organizations looking for a one-stop ICT troubleshooting and consultation firm. The NAILAB offers itself as a consultant to these entities and sub-contracts the individuals within the incubator space with the expertise required to do the work. The individuals involved have an added source of income and find an opportunity expand their networks as they work on nurturing their own businesses within the NAILAB.

Our ICT OUTREACH volunteering program is a public service endeavour that benefits both the community involved and the business entrepreneur in various ways. For the community, it is an opportunity to learn new skills and acquire new technology that simplifies and improves their livelihoods through financial, health and communication technological tools. For the entrepreneur, this is an opportunity to test their products, sample user behaviour, receive immediate customer reactions and create publicity for themselves and their products.

THE NAILAB INSIDE

The NAILAB is a managed under the Outbox Ltb – Kenya business license. Outbox Ltd is a business entity co-owned by the Dutch based 1%CLUB (www.onepercentclub.com) and the Kenyan based Wazimba Youth Foundation (www.wazimba.or.ke). Both organizations have their core activity built around the internet. The 1%CLUB is an online market place for international development while Wazimba is an organization using the World Wide Web to increase self-expression, self-assertion and self-reliance among the 14-24 age group in Kenya.
